Although ladies' car insurance rates are based on the fact that women are good drivers, recent research from Australia has shown that some female drivers are lacking in confidence.
The study, carried out by Newspoll, revealed that just 17% of lady drivers were certain that they could avoid a crash if they lost control of their car. This compares to 43% of men, who seem to be much more confident of their driving ability.
These findings built on previous research carried out by an Australian motor insurance provider which found that men are responsible for a much greater proportion of car crashes than ladies are.
Lee-Anne Bass, spokesperson for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "Well, for all the belief in their driving ability, men seem to crash an awful lot more than women.
"Perhaps it is men's over confidence that is responsible for their high accident rate, whilst a woman's more measured outlook nets her a low cost ladies' car insurance deal."
