A lady who drove her 4x4 at her ex-boyfriend and knocked him off his bike is going to have a great deal of trouble finding a cheap motor insurance quote in the future.
In April 2006, Claire Patterson, 38, met up with her ex-partner, Roy Ringwood, at a beauty spot to discuss their relationship, which had ended at the close of 2005. After an "unhappy and argumentative" discussion which ended in Ms Patterson being "upset", Mr Ringwood walked off towards his bicycle and she returned to her car.
He then started to cycle off but did not get more than a few metres before Ms Patterson started her car and drove towards him, knocking him from his bike. She then proceeded to drive over his leg, breaking it in three places.
Ms Patterson did not stop the car immediately, driving it a distance down the road before walking back and taking her ex-boyfriend's wallet and mobile.
Following the incident, Ms Patterson was arrested and charged with theft, using a vehicle without car insurance, failing to report an accident, dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
In her Chester Crown Court trial, she was convicted of all except theft, a charge which was ordered to lie on file, and grievous bodily harm with intent, which the judge quashed. Her sentencing hearing is due on the 9th November 2006.
Lee-Anne Bass of CoverGirl Car Insurance Services said: "Although Ms Patterson does qualify for female car insurance, I don't think she is going to be able to find a low cost motor insurance quote until all of those driving offence convictions are spent."
