A North Tyneside lady whose car was badly damaged by floodwater is outraged that her cheap car insurance provider has delayed giving her a replacement car.
The 22-year-old, who lives in Long Benton, has been left without a vehicle after her Peugeot 107 was partially submerged in the heavy rains of June 2007.
As soon as the floodwaters receded and her street was driveable once again, she telephoned her motor insurance company, the AA, to arrange for a replacement car.
However, she was stunned to find out that it would be at least a week before an engineer could inspect the damage to her £8,000 Peugeot.
She said: "They said someone would contact me within 24 hours to come out and arrange an engineer to look at my car to see the damage.
"Nobody contacted me, so I got on to them twice the day after. They say I can't have a courtesy car until mine is inspected and taken to the garage."
"The lady I spoke to asked me if public transport was working and told me to find alternative transport until they sorted it out. I think this is wrong, since I pay car insurance just like everyone else."
When asked for a comment, the cheap car insurance company did not release any details of the claim but offered the lady an apology and said that they were looking into it.
