It has been revealed that a new kind of cat's eye may pose a danger to epileptic women's car insurance prices.
The new cat's eyes work by flashing very rapidly rather than having traditional reflectors. They contain light emitting diodes (LEDs) which go on and off at about 100 times every second, which is why they may have an effect on epileptics.
One woman with epilepsy, Rebecca Jasiczak, nearly had a fit after experiencing the strobe effect of the cat's eyes that have been installed on the A12 at Witham.
Her father, Martin, said: "I'm very concerned for my daughter's sake and for other drivers."
The Highways Agency has been informed of the possible danger and has stopped any further installation of the new cat's eyes until an investigation is complete. It is believed that they are considering changing the spacing of the cat's eyes as a solution.
Lee-Anne Bass, a spokeswoman for women's car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "It is good that this issue has been raised before any accidents have been caused by these LED cat's eyes - at least no-one has been injured or lost their cheap motor insurance as a result."
