Ladies who buy woman's car insurance but do not protect their no claims discount could see their motor insurance quotes rise by almost £100 if they have an accident.
Research by online car insurance quote comparison service uSwitch has revealed that a third of motorists in the UK who could select the no claims bonus protection option when renewing their policy, do not do so; the equivalent of 7.7 million drivers.
A spokesperson for uSwitch commented: "No claims bonus protection plays a really important role as it covers motorists against premium hikes when they make a claim. As the cost of claims continue to rise, insurers will increase premiums to cover their costs. Consumers should therefore consider the benefits that protecting their NCD can offer."
However, the representative went on to warn woman's car insurance customers to check the details of no claims discount protection as it can vary between motor insurance providers.
For example, More Th>n offers no claims discount protection for life, whilst Cornhill Direct and Direct Line allow for a single crash in a year or two in three years. Further, motor insurers including the AA and Norwich Union state that their no claims discount protection allows for just two crashes in five years.
The uSwitch spokesperson finished: "Sometimes finding the best NCD protection can be just as financially beneficial as finding the best insurance policy."
