Car insurance for women is cheaper than for men because ladies are generally safer drivers - but there are always exceptions.
For instance, take the 38-year-old woman from Gold Coast, Queensland who was involved in a collision in December 2006.
Breath tests revealed the woman was a whopping seven times over the drink drive limit at time of the accident. A repeat offender, she had already been disqualified from driving the previous year.
And as for the reason she'd got into the car in the first place? The mother of two said she'd needed to get a DVD back to the shop she'd rented it from.
Magistrates in Southport have placed her on probation for two years, and banned her from driving for another four years.
"Obviously your decision-making skills were highly deficient," the judge told the woman, who he also ordered to undergo a drink driving rehabilitation course.
"Unfortunately, the cost of renting the DVD for an extra night is probably nothing compared to the increase in her car insurance rates," said Gemma Turner, CoverGirl spokesperson and an expert on car insurance for women.
