Cheap car insurance company ibuyeco has revealed that its customers have offset more than 18,000 tonnes of CO2 since it was launched to coincide with World Environment Day in June 2007.
Ladies who sign up to a "green" car insurance policy with ibuyeco have all of their car-related carbon emissions offset for a price that is included in their motor insurance quote.
The cheap car insurance company has calculated that the 18,000 tonnes of CO2 offset by ibuyeco customers so far is roughly equivalent to the emissions produced by the whole of Devon town Totnes in a whole year.
A spokesperson for the eco-friendly motor insurer said: "We are delighted with the response so far and ibuyeco seems to resonate strongly with consumers. With UK road traffic accounting for twenty five per cent of all CO2 emissions there was huge demand for an insurance product that helped counteract the damaging effect our every day use of the car was making.
"ibuyeco is a practical step for people to make whilst also giving them a competitive insurance quote," the spokesperson finished.
