A new solution to the drink drive problem has been launched this week by two young North Devon mums. Their business, named 'One for the Road', provides mobile chauffeurs to transport boozy drivers and their cars safely home to ensure they don't cause any accidents or risk their car insurance for women.
Already up and running successfully in Japan, Australia, Guernsey and London, Jane Steeley and Dawn Phillips brought the idea to Braunton after they recognised the problem of poor public transport and drink driving in their rural area.
The business is operated by chauffeurs on small collapsible motorcycles who collect the driver from the venue, fold their bikes into the boot of the drinker's car and then drive the drinker safely back to their house. Once there the chauffeur simply removes the bike from the car, reassembles it and goes on to the next job.
One for the Road can work out cheaper than a taxi as clients only have to pay for a one way fare and they don't have to worry about getting out of bed the next morning to go and collect their car.
Co-owner Jane Steeley says, "Whether you are going out to dinner in the evening, having a business lunch or going to a wedding, One for the Road provides the personal drink-drive solution."
It's not clear however what level of insurance the chauffeurs will have on your car so if you plan on using the service it is worth checking their car insurance for women to ensure your car will be fully covered.
