A pro-women car insurance firm is urging female motorists to consider learning more about their vehicles to help boost confidence dealing with mechanical matters and in case of car accidents or breakdowns.
CoverGirl Car Insurance Services reckons spending time finding their way round engines and other parts will aid useful understanding about how their cars are running.
The call comes after news that some vehicle servicing companies are offering women's car care clinics to tackle the issue.
A CoverGirl spokeswoman said: "These kind of initiatives can further help empower women in their daily lives. Why should they be intimidated by vehicle repair companies who may overcharge them?"
A typical clinic need only run for, say, three short slots - maybe of only half an hour each. That is plenty of time to tackle car maintenance issues and carry out demonstrations such as oil-changes and tyre-changing.
Such initiatives can help women to understand how to extend the life of their vehicles, as well as ensure they are well looked after.
The women car insurance spokeswoman from CoverGirl said: "One thing I know is that I'm no Leona Lewis - so when my tyre goes flat by the side of the road, I'm not expecting much help from men drivers... I'll be putting the spare wheel on by myself!"
