A study by Sainsbury's Car Insurance has shown that there could be a new way for ladies to protect their women's car insurance: listening to music.
The research revealed that 84% of motorists feel that listening to music relaxes them behind the wheel, reducing the likelihood of road rage, and 65% reported that it helps them to stave off tiredness and avoid fatigue-related accidents.
However, the type of music that motorists choose to listen seems to have an effect on how safe - or unsafe - their driving is. Some drivers reported that they got distracted by their music, whilst others said some types of music made them drive faster or more aggressively.
A spokesperson for the cheap car insurance firm said: "Many motorists clearly enjoy listening to music when they drive but it's important to recognise the effect it has on your driving and pick your music accordingly.
"It may well be tempting to listen to music to perk yourself up but our advice if you feel tired is to pull over and have a break, similarly consider switching to something soothing if you're beginning to feel a little irate."
Sainsbury's Bank also revealed the favourite types of music that women's car insurance customers like to listen to. Whilst a third of drivers appear not to care what kind of music is on the stereo, most of those who have a musical preference choose classical or pop, closely followed by rock.
