For all you female drivers who love your Renaults and who love cheap Renault car insurance from CoverGirl, we can offer you a glimpse of a beautiful future.
Despite pernicious rumours that it would be delayed, and perhaps even culled from the programme, a Renault product development spokesperson has told motoring media that plans to build the first bespoke sports car since the Renault Sport Spider remain unchanged.
Hoped to be in the marketplace by 2011, Renault's restoration of the classic 50's brand Alpine (pronounced "al-peen") aims to uphold founder Jean Rédélé's core values of lightweight construction and affordability.
The four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will be longitudinally mounted; offering at least 220bhp. Its closest rival will be the Mazda MX-5; it will outpower the Mazda, but at around £20,000, the Alpine will cost more.
It has been suggested that a Renault-Nissan association will develop the Alpine, based firmly on modified 350Z fundamentals. And in order for both parties to benefit from this manufacturing liaison, this project yields the hope that a new Renault Alpine model will generate a fresh Nissan sport model as replacement for the 22SX coupe.
A CoverGirl spokesperson commented, "Renault car insurance from CoverGirl is as specialised as the car itself. Whilst we are looking forward to providing top class cover for our lady sports car drivers, we continue to offer cheap motor insurance for all Renault models."
