As many as 30 percent of women are prepared to ignore car problems - which could very well lead to serious accidents and ruin their chances of finding a cheap car insurance premium - rather than visit a garage and get them fixed.
New research by Sheilas' Wheels revealed that women are still so put off by the 'blokey atmosphere' of UK garages that they'd do anything (or do nothing) to avoid going. In fact, 20 percent of those surveyed said they'd prefer a trip to the doctors.
A Sheilas' Wheels spokesperson said: "It's astounding that so many women motorists are potentially putting their lives on the line, just to avoid visiting a garage."
The findings go against the usually safety-conscious stereotype of women drivers.
"Lady drivers really need to get over this fear of garages before the uncorrected faults cause more accidents and expensive woman car insurance claims," said Lee-Anne Bass, on behalf of the cheap car insurance experts at CoverGirl.
"I know they can be intimidating places, but a woman with her wits about her doesn't need to fear being taken advantage of.
"In the vast majority of cases, you'll get a quick professional service and instant peace of mind, and that's so much better than driving about with an annoying rattle that might one day cost you your cheap car insurance premium," she added.
