Cheap car insurance crippled by snow

Cheap car insurance may be difficult to obtain for some motorists after the recent countrywide snowfall saw a sudden surge in the numbers of car insurance claims.

Motorists unfamiliar with the icy road conditions took to the roads only to find themselves involved in skidding accidents, minor bumps and collisions with other drivers.

AA car insurance services saw almost double the amount of claims for a Monday as a result of the first day of blizzard conditions, and motoring organisations blamed British motorists' lack of experience in snow driving for the numbers of car accidents.

However, data from Saga car insurance revealed that more mature drivers heeded the warning to stay indoors as the over-50s insurer reported no marked increase in claims due to the weather conditions.

A spokesperson for CoverGirl warned, "While we understand some of our customers just can't stay indoors on a snowy day, we would advise careful consideration of the immediate driving conditions before getting into your car.

"Protecting your cheap car insurance should be a serious consideration for a lot of people at this time."
