Statistics show why car insurance for women is cheaper than for men

Road accident statistics have shown that car insurance for women is cheaper for a very good reason: men are much more dangerous drivers.

According to research by road safety organisation Brake, 97% of those convicted of dangerous driving offences are male and men are 300% more likely than ladies to be involved in a fatal road accident.

The research also revealed that people's perception of male and female drivers is quite removed from reality. More than half of those surveyed did not believe that men were any more dangerous on the roads than women, whilst 84% underestimated the proportion of accidents for which men were responsible.

Although many motorists are ignorant of the differences between male and female drivers, this is not something which is reflected in the motor insurance industry. The fact that ladies are safer on the roads is shown by the growing number of female driver insurance companies which only provide cheap car insurance for women.

A spokesperson for Brake said: "Drivers know so little about the division between male and female drivers. It is a fact that male drivers are much more likely to cause death on the road and more likely to be killed themselves."
