A cheap
car insurance company has revealed that regular journeys are amongst
the most stressful for men and women on the UK's roads.
Swiftcover.com, which provides cheap
online car insurance quotes, found that driving to work, travelling
to and from the weekly supermarket shop and taking the kids to school
are amongst the most stressful times for UK motorists.
An impressive 64% of these drivers put their heightened stress levels down to the strains of driving in heavy traffic, whilst 45% get annoyed by slow or inconsiderate road users and 40% get wound up by roadworks and other delays.
However, in all these cases it is men who find these traffic situations more stressful than women, with other peoples' driving bothering only 35% of female drivers.
It would seem that ladies do have their own bugbears though, such as driving in poor weather conditions and driving at night. The cheap car insurance firm's research showed that ladies are twice as likely as men to avoid driving in bad weather or after dark to combat stress.
The study also revealed that there are some more gender differences when it comes to beating driving stress, other than avoiding the journey altogether. Ladies tend to sing along with top tunes, whilst men switch on the sat nav and hope it will guide them through.
A spokesperson for swiftcover.com said: "We all know it is virtually impossible to avoid our regular journey from hell but it's good to see drivers are finding ways to stay calm. A little bit of planning, a few breaths of fresh air and listening to your favourite music or radio station seem to do the trick."
