A report into learner drivers by BSM may explain why woman car insurance is so cheap for so many female drivers.
The research from the UK driving school reveals that ladies tend to be "more studious" than men when it comes to taking driving lessons; an attitude which it appears is applied to learning how to drive safely, and which earns them cheap car insurance premiums.
The study also showed that female
drivers are more likely to spend extra time behind the wheel in between
lessons, getting in vital extra hours of practice with an experienced
driver in the passenger seat before taking their test.
All of this may make ladies better drivers in the long run (and drop the
cost of woman
car insurance), but it also means that whilst male drivers have more
confidence when learning to drive, the girls may beat them to passing
their test.
The same piece of research also considered the role of parents in teaching young people to drive. It showed that most instructors feel that whilst parents can help the learner to improve their skills more quickly than getting professional tuition alone, this could also result in them passing on bad habits.
A spokesperson for the BSM said: "A carefully balanced mix of professional training and private practice can obviously improve the chances of passing the test and create more safe and responsible young drivers.
"However, the most important thing is that learners are taught to learn to drive for life, not just to pass their test. This is clearly more challenging for those young people who are facing increased pressure to pass or those that are being taught bad habits by their parents."
