White cars could protect cheap car insurance

Research from Australia has suggested that ladies wanting to keep their cheap car insurance premiums safe and sound should choose a white vehicle.

In the study, the Monash University Accident Research Centre looked at correlations between the colour of cars and accident risk in daylight hours.

It found that black cars had a 12% higher chance of having an accident than white ones, whilst many other colours such as blue, green, red and silver also had a greater crash rate.

A spokesperson for the RAC Foundation suggested that in the light of these findings, motorists who want to keep their cheap car insurance rates intact should perhaps start taking account of the colour of a car, as well as safety features and Euro NCAP results, when choosing a vehicle.

Gemma Turner, of ladies' motor insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, added: "Whilst it has been suggested that these results were down to the level of visibility that comes with a white car, it might just be that people who select white cars tend by nature to be less likely to take risks."

Car insurance news 2005

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
