Research by UK car insurance companies has suggested that Gary Jules' 'Mad World' may be one of the best songs for safe driving.
Studies by a number of British motor insurance providers, including More Than Car Insurance and the RAC, have found that music affects the way that we drive and consequently how much chance we have of having an accident.
This has been supported by a set of Israeli researchers, who found that those listening to fast, up-beat songs have double the chance of a crash than those listening to less fast-paced music. They also found that these motorists were more likely to put their motor insurance at risk by skipping red lights and driving too fast.
A spokesperson for the RAC Foundation said: "In general, if music is above 60 beats per minute, listeners experience a faster heart rate and increased blood pressure. It doesn't matter if you listen to opera, classical or the latest rave music. It's the speed of the beat that counts."
The RAC Foundation has suggested that UK car insurance customers could protect their motor insurance quotes by listening to songs such as Gary Jules' 'Mad World' , Lemar's 'Another Day' and the Sugababes' 'Too Lost in You' and staying away from Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' and the Prodigy's 'Firestarter'.
