Many women who buy a 4x4 do so at least partly because of the status that is attached to it and the 'yummy mummy' culture. However, following a recent survey, it appears that driving a 4x4 isn't such a positive thing after all.
Female 4x4 drivers not only have to pay some of the most expensive women's car insurance costs but also, according to the study, are thought of as being unappealing and aggressive - presumably not the chic image that they were aiming for.
LifeStyleExtra has been looking further into the 4x4 culture following research by Opus Behavioural Sciences Lab that revealed 4x4 drivers are amongst the least safe motorists on the road.
It found that they are much more likely to drive with a single hand on the wheel, rather than two placed in the correct "ten minutes to two" position.
Lee-Anne Bass, of women's car insurance company CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, said: "The reputation of 4x4s is going steadily downhill, what with their eco-unfriendliness, expensive running costs and now this.
"Considering these points, I would expect we'll be seeing fewer motor insurance quotes for 4x4s in the coming years."
