Ladies who leave their cars running while it defrosts are being warned that they could be putting their cheap car insurance at risk.
Many people turn the engine on then retreat back into the warmth of the house for a few minutes but security company Retainagroup is informing drivers that this is the perfect time for thieves to strike.
The company's director, Wendy Rowe, said: "We've probably all done it; turn the heater up, switch on the heated mirrors, seat and rear window, and then pop back indoors to finish breakfast or say cheerio to the kids."
However, it only takes a moment for someone to jump in the driver's seat and drive off with the already started car.
Ms Rowe added: "Leaving the engine running - even on your own drive - is an invitation to thieves."
Lee-Anne Bass, of the cheap car insurance for women experts at CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, commented: "There's no sense risking your motor insurance for a few more moments in the warm.
"These days most cars warm up much more quickly than they used to so you shouldn't even have to wait long for it to finish defrosting."
