A Grimsby woman has been put off driving after her first car - a Vauxhall Corsa - turned out to be an insurance write-off.
The 56-year-old lady had bought the Vauxhall for £600 privately in nearby Scunthorpe without realising that it had been judged to be a write-off by a car insurance company, as damaged caused by a break-in would be too costly to repair.
The Vauxhall driver commented: "I went to go see the car in Scunthorpe. It's a nice motor. The woman was honest in the fact that she told me the lock had been broken into.
"I applied to the DVLA for the log book and I got paperwork back telling me that it had been written off. I was really upset when I found out."
She went on to advise other motorists to "go into buying a car with their eyes open" and urged sellers to be honest about their vehicles.
Although she has had the damaged Vauxhall repaired so it is now in a roadworthy and secure state, she has been left anxious about driving after her bad experience.
