UK drivers are failing to realise that motoring offences could increase their premiums, according to an industry expert.
Woman car insurance customers are amongst those motorists who have been landed with a speeding fine, yet many of them continue to think that a £60 fine is their only penalty.
A spokesperson for the AA said: "When you get flashed by a camera, potentially you're not only collecting a £60 fine, you're potentially also collecting a £60 increase in your insurance premiums for the next three years.
"You could end up paying four times the fine. Speeding offences can be very expensive and I think most people tend to overlook that. It's not just the £60 fine."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the experts in woman car insurance, added: "A lot of people do not realise that a motoring offence can affect their UK motor insurance so dramatically.
"Even if you just accidentally go over the speed limit, you could face a penalty that will stay with you for several years."
