New research has shown that a male driver is three times more likely to spend excessive amounts of time in his car than a woman. Car insurance provider Admiral polled 3,000 people and came up with some surprising results.
Yes, one in ten drivers spends more time in their car than in their home, with one in five London motorists displaying such driving behaviour. In Scotland the figure was one in ten and in Wales one in 25.
When questioned about the choice of driving alone or being with a passenger, 62 per cent of the motorists said they preferred driving solo.
A spokesperson for Admiral Insurance said, "In a world where social networking and being constantly available are so valued, it might be that motorists are also seeking some solace in their cars.
"Perhaps men are taking some time out on the road to relax and get away from pressures at home. However, overall it's a sad reflection that people are spending so much time away from their friends and family, whether by choice or not."
A spokesperson for Covergirl said, "As a woman car insurance worker I know how important a car and my independence is, but spending more time in the car than at home would drive me barmy."
