Female driver launches taxi firm

A new taxi service especially for females has been launched in Wigan, thanks to the clever thinking of one woman car insurance customer.

The taxi firm called Girls Allowed was the brainchild of a Wigan lady whose husband owns his own taxi company. Whilst working for the family-run business, she noticed that women responded to her differently as a female driver and decided to launch her own service.

She said: "We had six female drivers working for us and they were always coming back saying that the female customers have said they have never had a lady taxi driver before. A lot of ladies will get in the front with you and say they prefer it.

"We are hoping that eventually the ladies - the women, mums and grans who use the service - will be more like friends and get to know the drivers. It has nothing to do with ladies feeling unsafe with the fantastic male drivers of the town, but more to do with preference."

A spokeswoman for CoverGirl Car Insurance Services, the experts in cheap car insurance, said: "It's a great idea and I can imagine that there will be a lot of woman car insurance customers out there that would love to use the service when their cars are off the road."

Car insurance news 2005

*A replacement car can normally be arranged under one of the following conditions: (1) Comprehensive policyholders – a replacement car may be available under the terms of your insurance policy. Please check your policy details for more information. (2) Non fault accident – where we have the name, car registration number and insurance details of the person who caused the accident, we can supply a replacement car. This is done on a credit hire basis which means the costs for this service will be passed onto the insurance company of the person who caused the accident. We may not be able to arrange a replacement car where we are unable to get an admission of liability from their insurance company, or where the driver is untraceable or uninsured. (3) Repair garage – if your car is booked in for repairs following an accident, the repair garage may be able to provide a replacement car (subject to availability).
