Woman car insurance customers could do with some extra protection in their front bumpers if the latest findings from Thatcham are anything to go by.
According to Thatcham, the motor insurance repair and research centre, drivers in the UK pay an extra £2 billion on road accident repairs because many bumpers are too easily damaged on small impacts.
In a series of tests in which 20 bumpers were given ratings on their affectability, the Honda CR-V, Citroen 4 Picasso, Land Rover Freelander 2 and the Suzuki Swift came out as the worst performers.
The research manager at Thatcham said: "If only motorists could see for themselves the limited protection that some bumper systems are giving their vehicles, they might not buy them in the first place."
"It is time manufacturers addressed this issue, not only would it knock more than £2bn from British bills - it would have a hugely beneficial impact on the environment with thousands of cars avoiding being written off."
Any driver who has to make a claim on their woman car insurance policy for damaged caused to their car in a car crash could find it difficult to get affordable female driver insurance in the future.
