Diamond has revealed that female drivers appear to be behind the rise of the 'Chelsea Tractor' culture.
According to the woman car insurance company's research, ladies with children are four times more likely to own a 4x4 as they did ten years ago.
However, it isn't only women who have taken to 4x4s. Around double the number of men were found to be driving these large vehicles today compared to a decade ago.
Despite this, men appear to be more likely to use them for practical purposes. Of those surveyed, most male 4x4 drivers told the woman car insurance firm that they were farmers, whilst most female 4x4 owners reported that they were company directors.
A spokesperson for Diamond said: "Some members of the public are critical of mums using their 4x4s on the school run, and these figures won't do much to deflect this criticism.
"4x4s are seen as a practical way in which to ferry children around due to their size, and some people perceive them to be safer for passengers," finished the representative of the ladies' car insurance firm.
