Research by a woman car insurance company has shown that the Ford Fiesta is falling out of favour with female drivers.
According to Diamond, the Fiesta is losing its spot as most popular car amongst its motor insurance policyholders, which it has held for 10 years. In 2000, it was three times more popular than its nearest rival, whereas it now accounts for less than 1% more policyholders than its closest contenders.
The Vauxhall Corsa and the Renault Clio both look likely contenders for overtaking the Ford Fiesta soon, with the number of woman car insurance customers who drive these models increasing by 260% and 330% respectively.
A spokesperson for Diamond said: "The small car market is ultra competitive and it seems that women are being drawn to the Fiesta's rivals in their droves.
"We've also seen an increase in the number of women driving 4x4s and sports cars and so it's not just other small cars that are taking the Fiesta's customers."
