A motor insurance firm has revealed that ladies are putting their woman car insurance at risk by arguing with their partners while driving.
The survey, carried out by Direct Line, showed that up to 74% couples have argued while in their car. Many of these (60%) admitted being distracted by the quarrel, putting them at a higher risk of having an accident and losing their cheap car insurance rates.
Another aspect of arguing in the car which could also raise the chance of a crash is the fact that the driver may speed if they lose their temper. One in eight people surveyed by the motor insurance company admitted to this risky behaviour.
The results of the study showed that speeding is something which often starts arguments between ladies and their partners, with 19% of women reporting that driving too fast was the cause of in-car disagreements.
Men, on the other hand, find poor map reading infuriating and 44% said that it has caused discord in the car. They are also more likely to criticise their partner's driving, despite the well-documented fact that ladies get low cost woman car insurance because they are safer behind the wheel.
Emma Hoyler, spokesperson for Direct Line, said: "We all have different styles and sometimes as a passenger, particularly with someone you know well, you might feel tempted to point out any little mistakes your driver makes.
"But 28% of the motorists we spoke to said they find any passenger stressful, even if they are well behaved.
"So be careful how you go about offering your opinion on their driving - argumentative passengers not only cause unnecessary stress, but could be distracting which leads to accidents," she advised.
