The 52-year-old may find it difficult to get a cheap motor insurance quote in the future after mistaking the Nordstrasse city subway for a car park.
Onlookers could not believe their eyes when the woman drover her Volkswagen Beetle onto the pavement and down five steps of the subway's entrance.
Fortunately, no commuters at the subway in suffered any personal injuries in the accident and the woman driver emerged from the vehicle unscathed. However, any reproductions of the event may have a serious impact on her future women's car insurance quotes.
The latest accident echoes a similar crash that took place four years ago when a 50-year-old man also mistook the subway for an underground car park. Fortunately, he too escaped unharmed.
Andrea Blome, head of Traffic Management in Düsseldorf, answered safety concerns about the subway and said "We had only recently transformed the entrance to the station."
She added that the subway's stairwell had been painted with a bright colour and that extra lighting had been installed.
The lady car insurance customer was said to be shocked and embarrassed about the accident, which may in the future affect the affordability of her motor insurance quotes.
