An Australian survey has revealed that woman's car insurance buyers ‘down
under' may be the most distracted by their appearance whilst at the wheel.
One in two of the 16 to 29-year-olds questioned confessed to being preoccupied with their looks and not wholly focussed on the road, but as drivers matured vanity did not cause such an issue as approximately one in four (28%) of 30 to 39-year-olds and only one in five (19%) over 40s admitted to such distracted driving behaviour.
Of the genders, one in three (33%) of the women respondents stated they would focus on their appearance while driving. Of the men, the tally reduced to one in five (19%).
Worryingly, one in eight women said they would attempt to apply make-up while at the wheel.
A spokesperson for NRMA, the car insurance provider who carried out the survey, admitted that the survey had revealed a small number of Australian men who shave while they drive.
He said, "We need to be aware of our limits at the wheel and what can go wrong when we take our eyes off the road."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, commented, "Distracted driving in the UK is a motoring offence that could lead to the issuing of penalty points.
"With endorsements on your licence the cost of your woman's car insurance premium is likely to rise and some insurers may refuse to cover you."
