According to new research womans car insurance that comes with free breakdown cover is a boon to most female drivers as many ladies lack the necessary skills to keep their cars fully maintained and they are unable to fix them when they go wrong.
The insurance firm Churchill found that 28 per cent of men considered themselves 'expert' in vehicle maintenance, compared with just 5 per cent of women.
Almost a third of those women polled said they had poor or non-existent car maintenance skills while only ten per cent of male respondents agreed with this statement.
Of the female drivers questioned 66 per cent said they felt comforted by being able to contact someone in the event of a breakdown, whereas just under half of the male drivers agreed with this sentiment.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, specialist suppliers of womans car insurance, said, "We believe all female drivers should have the benefit of a breakdown service, so we can arrange that service at an affordable price. And whether they choose to learn car maintenance or not is totally up to them as our womans car insurance service provides all the expertise they'll ever need."
