A Chicago driver will find her woman's car insurance of little use when she appears in court after killing a motorcyclist because she was manicuring her nails, nydailynews.com reports.
The 48-year-old female driver admitted to police that she was painting her nails as she approached traffic lights in Lake Zurich, 40 miles north of Chicago, and that she did not see the red traffic lights.
The distracted driver collided with a 56-year-old female motorcyclist, who was thrown from her bike.
The rider, who had been wearing a crash helmet at the time of the incident, died later from chest and abdominal injuries.
The female driver was hospitalised after the incident for non-life threatening injuries, but was later cited by police for failure to reduce speed to avoid a car accident.
The town's sheriff said, "There should be [further] charges against this woman in the very near future."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, specialist provider of woman's car insurance, said, "In the UK distracted driving is a prosecutable motoring offence that carries the severest penalties in the instance of a fatality."
