Diamond, the woman's car insurance provider, has conducted a survey that reveals men are more likely to drink and drive than women.
Of the 2,600 motorists questioned, one in ten men would be get behind the wheel of their car having drunk three to four units of alcohol, compared with only one in a hundred female drivers.
Overall, 34 per cent of women said they would be happy to drive after
drinking, while 62 per cent of men admitted they would be happy to do
so.
Sian Lewis, Diamond's managing director, said, "The fact that such a large
percentage are happy to drive after having a drink is a real worry as
any amount of alcohol affects your ability to drive safely."
Research on the cost of car insurance premiums carried out by moneysupermarket.com showed that on average premiums increase by 82 per cent after a driver receives a drink driving conviction.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl said, "Once again the statistics show that
women are less of a risk than men behind the wheel and that is why
woman's car
insurance is cheaper. But we would advise all our car
insurance customers not to drive after drinking alcohol."
