As woman's car insurance providers we know that ladies are entitled to cheaper motor cover than men because they are less likely to indulge in risky driving behaviour. It's a fact recognised by the World Health Organisation that has led to cheap women's quotes all over the world.
However, there is still a myth perpetuating that parallel parking is a problem for female drivers.
Geoff Rolls has explored this and many other societal preconceptions in a new book entitled "Women Can't Park, Men Can't Pack" (published by Chambers) and suggests that the reasoning behind the parking/packing myth may be somewhat down to evolutionary brain development.
The book proposes that research carried out by Pease and Pease reveals women's brains lack sufficient visual-spatial brain cells needed to carry out efficient parking. According to neurological scans, 80-85% of women have neural circuits with lesser spatial abilities than men.
The evolutionary reason behind this piece of information may be that prehistoric men required highly accurate hunting skills that brought about the growth of their visual-spatial circuitry.
So, if their modern brains have such highly skilled visual-spatial ability, why can't men pack? Rolls suggests that success in such activities depends greatly on motivation and interest levels.
And here at CoverGirl, the specialist providers of woman's
car insurance, we ask, just who is it that finds parallel parking
interesting?
