A stark reminder has been issued in Scotland of the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. You may be a conscientious motorist who services and MOTs your vehicle and has full woman's car insurance, but if you take risks while driving you may end up suffering severe consequences.
A 33-year-old mother has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
On the day of the road traffic accident, the woman had been drinking into the early hours of the morning. She also took ecstasy and cannabis.
She drove home from Dundee in the early evening even though her friends had urged her not to. Her car mounted a pavement and killed a father-of two who was out walking his dog.
The judge said the extent of the tragedy was beyond calculation and that no sentence could reflect a value of the victim's life or the effect of his death on the family.
He added, "The court must drive home the message that dangerous driving, particularly under the influence of drink and/or drugs, is a very serious crime that may have the gravest consequences."
A spokesperson for Covergirl, the woman's car insurance specialist, commented, "Motorists found guilty of the severest motoring offences should expect the harshest punishments possible. This woman's driving behaviour was deplorable"
