According to a YouGov poll carried out in April 2009, 12 per cent of women drivers are likely to forego this year's womans car insurance purchase as they switch to two wheels in a bid to beat the recession.
The poll revealed that twice as many men may pull on a crash helmet and buy a moped or motorcycle, however, of all the drivers questioned the main reasoning behind the decision would be to save money on items such as car insurance and high fuel costs.
Out of the 2,060 adults polled online, 13 per cent suggested they would consider the move to two wheels and this could mean up to 4.8 million cars being left on the nation's driveways.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl said, "For many women a multi-passenger car is a necessity and in order to make the vehicle as cost-effective as possible buying womans car insurance from a dedicated online car insurance provider like CoverGirl can be the easiest way to get cheap motor cover."
