Woman's car insurance providers are encouraged to hear news of the inaugural Women's World Car of the Year award.
The judging will see ten women motoring journalists choose a winner from a shortlist of 21 vehicles that have appeared on the market between September 2008 and September 2009 and are on sale in at least ten countries.
The panel will be made up of members from UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and Europe.
Panellists all have proven motoring credentials which include entries into marathon rallies and competitors in various forms of motor racing; all are established motoring writers or broadcasters.
There will be four categories including family car, sports car, luxury car, and most economical car. From the four category winners, one supreme champion will be announced toward the end of 2009.
The New Zealand judge said, "Most awards are chosen by a huge majority of men who tend to view cars differently to women.
"We will look at driveability, obviously, but we won't delve into horsepower or torque too much.
"We will examine whether a car is child-friendly, whether it is value for money, what the carbon footprint is like, in fact all those things women genuinely want to know about before they buy a car."
A woman's insurance spokesperson from CoverGirl Insurance Services commented, "In an age when a woman's opinion sways the buying outcome of as much as 85% of all cars sold, this is a timely award that should hold great significance for motor manufacturers."
