The female owner of a Suzuki Swift, written off as it was parked outside her home, only had third party woman's car insurance and is now desperate to find out if the at-fault driver was insured.
The black Ford Focus involved had been travelling down a residential street in Oldham when it hit the Swift. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it careered downhill finally crashing through the walls of a nearby house.
The owner of the Suzuki had been away for a Bank Holiday break and returned home to find her car had been towed from the scene.
She said, "I only got the car six weeks ago I'm fuming. I just got back from holiday to find my car had gone and bits of it were in the road."I've only got third-party insurance so I hope he was insured."
The male driver, who had to be cut from his vehicle, was taken to hospital suffering from spinal injuries.
It was suspected that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol and he was later arrested.
A spokesperson for Covergirl, specialist providers of woman's car insurance, commented, "Buying third party only cover is one way of getting cheap car insurance, but it can be a false economy in circumstances such as this."
