A woman who realised her woman's car insurance would not cover £13,000 of personal belongings stolen from her car is distraught, according to The Northern Echo.
The woman and her husband had parked her vehicle in the Yorkshire Dales to go for a walk before they checked into a hotel for the weekend. However, when they returned to the vehicle the Audi TT had had been broken into and all their luggage hade been taken.
The 46-year-old woman said, "I was absolutely hysterical, I kept throwing myself onto the floor and I couldn't stop crying.
"When you go for a weekend away you take your 'best' everything, from clothes and jewellery to toiletries and make-up, and ours are now all gone."
Amongst the stolen items were an antique Ebel Swiss watch, worth £7,000
and a pearl necklace that was bought for her wedding day.
She said, "All my instincts were telling me to drive to the hotel first
and get our luggage checked in. I should have listened.
"I would urge everyone to think twice before leaving items in their car
because in many cases, including ours, the loss will not be covered by
insurance."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl commented, "Whilst some woman's car insurance policies offer a certain value for handbags and contents as part of the insurance premium we would urge all women's insurance buyers to check their policy terms regarding cover for stolen items. However, to prevent the risk of vehicle break-in we always urge our customers to remove valuables from the car when they leave it. "
