Police in Bath have listed items left visible for potential car thieves recently, and one of the items was a large box of medical marvel pills.
They also say that items seen in unattended cars include suitcases, handbags, iPods, musical instruments and golf clubs. All of these are very desirable items for potential theft.
Police figures show that in Bath and North East Somerset, during the first three months of 2008 thefts from cars increased by 58 per cent.
More than half of all cars stolen in the region were taken from Bath itself.
Officers have begun a car crime awareness campaign to target hotspot areas for thefts from cars and community safety officers will be on the hunt for vehicles offering crime potential.
The owners of those cars will be sent a letter by the police offering crime prevention advice
Sgt Geoff Cannon said: "We would advise drivers to park in a well-lit area, take all your valuables, including your satellite navigation system, with you and to secure all windows, doors and the boot."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, woman's car insurance specialist, commented, "Whilst it is reassuring to know that the contents of your car are covered by some policies, the upheaval of losing precious items and having to make a claim is not worth taking the risk. Clear your car, save on your car insurance."
