Woman's car insurance customers aged between 25 and 34 are the most likely to leave the scene of a car park shunt without leaving their details, according to a survey by RAC Direct Insurance.
The cheap car insurance company revealed that more than half of motorists have been involved in this kind of low speed accident, either causing one or being on the receiving end. It also found that three quarters of these accidents were hit and runs; that is, no contact details were left on the damaged car.
The study also revealed that there are some quite significant differences between men and woman's car insurance customers when it comes to reasons for leaving the scene of car park shunts.
Men are more likely to leave to keep their motor
insurance intact or because they feel the accident isn't serious enough
to warrant stopping for, whilst ladies tend to drive off because they
are afraid of a confrontation or because they feel guilty.
The UK
car insurance company revealed that £2.4 billion is paid out
in repairs for these low speed accidents each year, with each shunt costing
an average of £293.57 to fix.
A spokesperson for the firm said: "Many minor car park prangs cause damage that falls below the excess on a driver's comprehensive policy, so RAC Direct Insurance recommends that motorists check whether their car insurance policy includes "Legal Expenses" cover, which can be used to help claim back the cost of minor repairs from the culprit's own insurers."
