A student at Newcastle University is going to find her woman car insurance premium has shot through the roof after she was convicted of drink driving.
The 19-year-old Burnley woman, who is studying business management, was breathalysed by police after she drove off in a friend's car and promptly crashed after just 50 yards.
The late-night incident occurred near a Whalley nightclub, in which police saw a Ford Focus accelerating quickly away from the town centre before suddenly swerving and hitting parked cars.
The prosecutor in the case said: "The force of the impact pushed that car into another and the car also damaged a garden wall."
The female driver pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, without motor insurance and otherwise than in accordance with her provisional licence, and said that she was very sorry for the incident.
She will not see the impact on her woman car insurance rates for some time, as the Blackburn magistrates banned her from driving for 20 months, as well as giving her a £250 fine and ordering her to pay £43 in costs.
