Driving data continually backs up the reasons behind woman's insurance being cheaper than men's, and new statistics revealed by police in North Wales show that almost eight times more men than women were caught drink-driving in the region in the last five years.
The highest number of women stopped by police were in the 20 to 36-year age group, but 19-year-old males proved to be the worst offenders.
Since 2003, 1,276 drink-driving offences have been committed by women, with ages ranging from 14 to 81-years. In the same time a shocking 8,484 drink-driving charges have been brought against men aged between 13 and 88 years-of-age.
However, numbers of such offences have been dropping steadily. In 2003 to 2004, 2,314 arrests were made for drink-driving. In 2006/7, 1, 839 arrests were made and in 2007/8 the figure reduced to 1,680.
Chief Inspector Gary Ashton said, "While it's encouraging that we're having these results and taking more drink-drivers off the roads, it's also worrying that motorists are continuing to ignore the drink-drive message. Once again, young drivers are over represented in our arrest figures and our enforcement activity is targeted towards this high-risk group to prevent their involvement in a fatal or serious injury collision."
It is data like this which allows woman's insurance providers such as CoverGirl to continue to offer cheap car insurance deals to safe female drivers
