Women car insurance buyers have such an attachment to their vehicles that 38 per cent of them own up to giving their car a name, according to Diamond car insurance.
The survey revealed that over 50 per cent of drivers express an emotional attachment to their car, with a third of all motorists actually giving a name to their vehicle.
Surprisingly, over a quarter of men who answered the survey, also admitted bestowing their car with a pet-name and it could be reasonably argued that, in reality, this count may be increased by those too embarrassed to tell anyone they call their car Bunny-hugs.
The survey revealed B-names to be the most popular with Betsy, Baby and
Betty coming in as 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice respectively, but there were
also some more outlandish monikers such as
Beastie, Einstein, and Mr Aubergine McRalph.
A Diamond car insurance spokesperson commented, "People spend large amounts of time in their car so it's not surprising that they become attached to them."
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, who specialize in car insurance for women said, "Cars, for many women, symbolize independence and freedom - they really can become a reliable friend."
