Women car insurance buyers are reminded that careless driving may incur a custodial sentence after a young woman from Rugby was recently found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving.
The car accident occurred at 6.20am when the female driver passed roadworks and pulled into the centre of the road. She did not see the 54 year-old woman who was crossing in front of her.
The woman driver has said she believed the speed limit on the road to be 40mph, but it was 30mph. She has denied travelling at nearer 50mph.
The Crown Court jury needed only 80 minutes to unanimously find the Polish driver guilty. The judge warned that he would be contemplating sending her to prison when the court returns for sentencing.
The young woman, speaking through an interpreter said, "I was not on the phone and I was not changing the radio. I cannot explain why I did not see her, I just did not."
A spokesperson for Covergirl, the women car insurance specialists, said, "This is a tragic case for all concerned. As usual, we urge our customers to use constant vigilance in all driving situations."
