Women insurance buyers are reminded of the motoring laws regarding mobile phones after a woman who caused death by dangerous driving will almost certainly receive a jail sentence according to the judge presiding over the case.
The 21-year-old female driver form Suffolk had been driving to Oxford in November 2007, when she hit the back of a stationary vehicle at 70 mph, killing the occupant.
According to phone records the young woman had made several calls and sent over 20 texts before the car accident, whilst driving.
The female driver, who showed obvious remorse throughout the trial, said she had thought it was acceptable to use a mobile phone whilst driving.
She told the court, "I didn't think I should be chatting away when manoeuvring roundabouts, but in the right conditions..."
The judge granted the woman bail pending a probation report before sentencing.
He said, "I tell you this, that in granting you bail, I don't give you any promise at all about what the sentence will be.
"It will almost certainly be a sentence in prison."
Women insurance providers noted that the judge banned the woman from driving whilst on bail.
