Women insurance buyers be warned; drink driving offences could see you banned from driving for two years.
A Norfolk woman recently appeared in court accused of causing £50,000 of damage to a bungalow having driven her car whilst having more then twice the legal limit of alcohol in her blood.
The magistrate's court heard how the mother-of-two had received an interim driving ban only three weeks earlier having admitted drink-driving, driving without car insurance and driving without due care and attention.
Then, on October 19th 2008, the woman had consumed one and a half bottles of wine before taking to the wheel of her Vauxhall. She ended up ploughing into the front of the bungalow near King's Lynn, completely demolishing the family bathroom.
For this further offence the woman received a 24-month ban for drink-driving. However, the sentence could be reduced by six months if the offender completes a drink-driver rehabilitation course.
She will also have had to undertake a drink-impaired drivers' programme and pay the bungalow owners £300 compensation.
For not having valid women's insurance, the female driver was fined a further £300 and received points on her driver's licence. For driving without due care and attention she was fined £500 and received further endorsements. She will also have to pay £75 costs.
