We know that there are plenty of ladies out there who love to modify their cars, but, those additions, such as wide wheel arches and new exhaust systems, can add pounds to your women's car insurance.
New research from uSwitch has shown that car cover costs increase significantly for young male drivers who choose sporty models of popular car makes over the basic ranges, but it has not highlighted the effects on young women's car insurance.
Adding a rear spoiler to a vehicle can push up the cost of young male driver's policy by £688 a year, but this is cheap in comparison to the addition of a new exhaust system which might add over £6,000 to the insurance bill.
A CoverGirl spokesperson said, "It is believed that owners who modify their cars drive more carefully to protect the time and money they have invested in their vehicles and are therefore, on average, 20 per cent less likely to be involved in a car accident.
"One of the best ways to reduce the cost of women's car insurance is to drive for several years without making a claim – for a young female driver a three year no-claim bonus can reduce the cost of car cover really significantly."
