Although female drivers enjoy the benefits of cheaper women's car insurance, they occasionally suffer as a result of greater vulnerability when driving alone.
A car dealership in Kings Lynn, Norfolk has hopefully tackled some of these issues by putting on a female driver's self-protection evening called "Women in the Driving Seat".
Over 100 women (and several men) attended the session to learn about driving in today's stressful motoring conditions.
A local karate instructor gave an entertaining and instructive self-defence display, and visitors to the dealership's workshops were invited to change a wheel and learn how to carry out routine maintenance tasks.
An ex-Police Chief Inspector explained the psychology behind dangerous and aggressive driving behaviour, and explained techniques to avoid situations of conflict.
Kings Lynn Deputy Mayoress Shirley Daws agreed that the practical approach was best.
She said, "I had never changed a wheel before I came here and now I know I can do it if my car breaks down when I'm on my own. It's good that courses like these equip women to take control in these situations and be better able to cope with today's road conditions,"
A spokesperson for Covergirl, the women's
car insurance provider, said, "Courses like this should be available
to all motorists, especially women. Your car cover can help pay for repairs
to a damaged car, but it can't prevent a road-rage attack."
