What is the newest threat to finding a cheap women's car insurance quote? Could it be tweeting?
As applications for mobile phones become increasingly advanced and widespread it appears that social networking on your mobile phone while driving may be the latest scourge of safe driving.
According to an esure survey almost one in ten motorists could be using their mobile phone to update Facebook and Twitter profiles, or some other text network service, whilst driving.
Esure insurance services analysis of Twitter suggests that an average of 52 drivers a day are posting tweets to boast of their dangerous driving habits whilst using their mobile phones.
Whilst 92 per cent of the survey respondents knew it is illegal to use a hand held phone while driving, 45 per cent of those questioned admitted to flouting road regulations by texting and making calls behind the wheel.
It appears that female drives find mobile phones more of a distraction than their male counterparts as 50 per cent of those surveyed said they find phone beeps, buzzes and alerts very distracting while driving, while 46 per cent of men admitted the same.
However, it appears that men really are the riskier gender as 29 per cent said they had answered phone calls while driving, whereas 25 percent of female drivers admitted doing so.
A spokesperson for CoverGirl, the women's car insurance specialist, said, "This is a worrying trend. As more and more people become engrossed in mobile phone social networking there is an ever increasing threat of careless driving and associated car accidents on the nation's roads."
